My Low Carb Diet: Weeks 3 & 4

I lost 10 pounds! It was difficult and very expensive but I did it. I can’t stay on this diet any longer because I have no energy to complete my workouts or play volleyball.  After doing some research, it is very clear that athletes cannot perform without carbohydrates and so I have started adding them back into my diet. However, I will not go back to eating over 300 grams of carbs per day.  Low carb dieting has taught me to choose the right carbs. I will limit my intake of empty carbohydrates like pasta, bread and white rice. But I will be adding some more fruit, vegetables, and brown rice back into my diet a little bit at a time. I will have to experiment to see how many carbs my body needs to maintain my current weight.  I was consuming about 100 grams of carbohydrates per day last week and still losing weight so I will try increasing that number to about 150 grams per day and hope that I can maintain my weight.

This is the problem with fad diets, as soon as you stop following the diet, you risk gaining the weight back. I am hoping that I can find a balance between the carb-crazed fool that I was, and the no carb dieter I have been for the past month.  I hate being on diets because I love food! My goal is to find out what I can eat and enjoy and not feel like I am restricting or depriving myself of foods that I love. My dad was right, “everything in moderation.”
